What would make the boys choose not to do one? Length already established? Too tired? Bad crowd? To end on an already good "note"? Curfew? Probably answered my own question but thought I'd inquire for more info. Thanks.

the only 2 I knew of were July 94 at shoreline. The Fri and sat show had no encores because of a supposed curfew.

Also spring 86 in Providence has no encore because someone threw a beer bottle at Billy during the JBG closer.

I guess I was thinking more of the early days like '72 and they probably didn't do them every show b/c they had already played for hours as it was. Looking at Deadbase, and I see many dates w/out encores. Probably curfew-related,depending on the venue, or just sheer exhaustion.

Usually a lack of encore back in those days was due to curfews (noise violations) and the like. When they were playing the smaller theaters, quite often they were not necessarily stand alone buildings and situations like that were not uncommon. Also some places had local ordinances about concerts and you had to get a permit and it was restrictive of time.

I guess at the 10-14-84 show the staff actually turned on the house lights because the show was so long. Hence no encore there also.

My good friend who I was just hanging with before I got home now was there too and is the one who first turned me on to this one. Very cool indeed.
Cheers

I was a freshman in High school and my soccer coach was a dead head. the next day instead of making us warm up with the team he pulled us aside and talked about the show. he was the one who said the fire marshall closed them down
